Changes in the pshychotherapeutic field
Experience from groups on medical psychology with general practitioners taught that it is possible to introduce psychotherapeutic methods in general practice. It taught also that there is more psychotherapy done in other fields, with other human relations by other functionaries than psychotherapists. The Jatter meets only the 'unhappy few' in a two-way relation and does not perceive the other force fields in which the patients live. He is only confronted with the emotional translation of e.g. social problems into individual problems for which he cares in a personal way.
However, in social work, pastoral mental care, the probation officer's work, social planning and revalidation psychodynamic mechanisms play an important rĂ³le in a very specific way. k is necessary to make scientific research in these fields in order to make clear descriptions and indications and to build up a common denominator. It is a pity to note that there is more interest in psychotherapy outside than inside the medical world.
Beside this change in the field of psychotherapy there is a growing interest in a model of the psyche in other disciplines. Ethology, neurofysiology and psychofarmacology also use the conceptions of drive, pleasure, repression, shifting, inhibiton, repetition. They don't belang any langer to the exclusive vocabulary of the psychotherapist. The models of these disciplines cannot be ignored.
The field of psychotherapy widens, the basic model of the psyche changes. If psychotherapy will remain a scientific therapeutic method it must accept these challenges and the discussion.
